WHAT IS THE SICK BANK DONATION PROGRAM?

The Sick Bank Donation Program allows employees to donate sick time to support colleagues facing serious or catastrophic illnesses or injuries. The program provides additional sick leave to participating employees who:

  • Have exhausted all accrued leave (Sick, Vacation, Personal, and Compensatory).
  • Have experienced a qualifying illness or injury (unrelated to Workers’ Compensation).

All requests for Sick Bank time are reviewed and approved by the Sick Bank Committee on a first-come, first-served basis. You can learn more about the Extended Sick Leave Bank Program here.

WHY DONATE?

Your donation helps sustain the Sick Bank and ensures that eligible colleagues in need have access to this vital resource. And in the event that you require additional sick leave during the year, you must donate at least one sick day before the donation window closes on January 31, 2025 to be eligible to withdraw from the Sick Bank.

Donating sick time:

  • Does not affect your eligibility for the Sick Leave Buyback program.
  • Does not count as an absence under the Attendance Policy.

HOW TO DONATE

It’s easy to participate! Here’s what you need to do before Friday, January 31, 2025:

  1. Log in to Access Boston.
  2. Click on the Employee Self Service tile.
  3. Select “COB Sick Bank Donation” and submit the required information.
  4. You’ll receive a confirmation email verifying your donation.

You can check your sick leave balance through the Employee Self Service Portal at ess.boston.gov by selecting the “Absence Balances” tile.
