On Nov. 11, we mark Veterans Day in the United States and Remembrance Day in Canada to honor those who served our countries in the military.
Instead of honoring our Steelworker siblings who served for just one day, we’re taking the entire of month of November to shine a spotlight on our Veterans of Steel.
At the last Constitutional Convention in 2022, delegates voted to mandate that every single local have a veterans committee. Since then, we’ve been working hard to build this program.
Stay tuned to our social media networks as we highlight our Veterans of Steel coordinators and recap the work our union is doing at the bargaining table, in classrooms, in legislatures and in our communities to protect and help our veterans.
I also want to encourage you to do a few things.
- If you’re a vet, join Veterans of Steel and tap into the camaraderie we’re working to build.
- Find the veterans in your local and your community and let them know our union is there for them. They can find us at usw.org/vetsofsteel.
- Make sure your local is building a Veterans of Steel committee and share photos of your committee at work.
- Share messages and photos expressing support for our veterans on your own social media networks and profiles.
Nothing we can do will ever properly express the gratitude we have, but in our union, we’ll never stop trying.
In Solidarity,
