Last week, Massachusetts Steelworkers met with state lawmakers to urge passage of
S.2653, a bill that expands the state’s “Move Over Law” to require drivers to slow down
or move over when passing stationary utility and disabled vehicles, just as they do for
emergency responders. USW represents gas and utility workers across Massachusetts
whose safety would be directly strengthened by this legislation.
Our advocacy helped move this critical legislation forward. On October 16, 2025, the
Massachusetts State Senate unanimously passed S.2653, by a vote of 39 to 0
(usw.to/5hx).
The bill now heads to the House of Representatives, where it is under consideration. Stay
tuned for updates and opportunities to make your voice heard as we continue the push
to get this bill signed into law and ensure safer conditions for those who keep our
communities running.
